Member Saturday: Neighborhood Connections | Eastern State and Girard College

Members only. Registration required.

Eastern State Penitentiary and Girard College have been neighbors for more than 180 years. You’ve been behind the Eastern State wall. Now, join Katherine Haas, director of historical resources at Girard College, and head behind the Girard College wall for a discussion exploring the historical links between these two Philadelphia landmarks.

Check out Eastern State architect John Haviland’s proposed, and ultimately rejected, design for Girard College. Learn about how Girard College and Eastern State Penitentiary were both must-see locations for visitors in the 19th century and find out which Eastern State warden was a Girard College alum.

Please note: Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this event may be held online. If we do gather on site, an online option will still be made available. Register now and keep an eye on your email for updates. A Zoom invitation will be emailed 24 hours in advance.

This event is free for all members. Reserve free tickets online or call 215-236-5111 x224. Space is limited.

Join us at 11:00 am on the third Saturday of every month for this special members-only program. Not a Member? Join today! Questions? Email us at [email protected]
