We're hiring all kinds of people for the nation’s premier Halloween event and are committed to fostering an environment of diversity and inclusion where staff of varying backgrounds can thrive.

While most positions have been filled, we are currently hiring Tech Crew! Show Techs are responsible for troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and operation of the show. Ideal candidates possess skills like carpentry, theatrical lighting/DMX, metalworking, electronics, pneumatics, special FX, and painting. Learn more.

This year we are celebrating the 30th anniversary of our Halloween fundraiser. Our 2021 season event will include a variety of Halloween themed attractions and experiences. All proceeds from the event are used to support the preservation and interpretation of Eastern State Penitentiary - a National Historic Landmark.

Halloween Nights at Eastern State Penitentiary runs select nights from September 24 through November 13 and employs a variety of people to fill more than 200 seasonal positions. Current available positions include actors, dancers, circus performers, retail staff, event staff, line management staff, parking staff and more. These jobs are demanding but FUN! Pay starts at $15.00  per hour and more for management positions.

Please Note: All employees must be able to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or submit to a weekly PCR test (not a rapid screen) at your local pharmacy each week in order to work on site. In addition, in accordance with the City of Philadelphia's COVID-19 protocols, we also require everyone to wear a mask indoors regardless of vaccination status.

Note: It is important that you read all information carefully. Each of the following pages contains DIFFERENT information about interview or audition dates, paperwork and required skills.

Remember to fill out your application before you arrive to interview or audition! Not only will you save the hiring managers time, but you will also be placed ahead of applicants who haven’t completed an application in advance. Applications can be downloaded from the pages listed below.

Positions will be filled on a first come, first-considered basis – meaning that you have a better chance of getting a role by attending an earlier audition/interview. Auditions and interviews run RAIN OR SHINE.

Acting, Dancing, and Singing  Roles
Applicants must audition for acting, dancing, and singing  roles. Performers entertain and scare visitors as they explore the event. Performers are required to wear a costume and special FX makeup, which will be provided by penitentiary. You do not need to prepare a monologue; just come, have fun, and give us your best scream! Customer Service, Retail, Line Management, Custodial and Parking Positions
Applicants must interview for these roles.  Positions include Retail, Guest Services, Parking Attendant, Line Control Staff and Custodial. These positions require a lot of customer interaction. A positive attitude and a commitment to exceptional customer service are required. Most of these jobs do not require wearing a costume or makeup, just a uniform. Learn More >

Costume Team
The Costume Department is made up of a team of talented costumers who dress and aid the cast of 200 performers each evening. Applicants must be people-oriented problem solvers who can think on their feet. The costume team works collaboratively and interacts closely with the actors. They must be proficient sewing both by hand and with a machine, have basic painting, repairing, and fabricating skills, be able to lift at least 50 lbs., and have the ability to take initiative and work independently.
