Free Speech Behind Bars – The First Amendment and Prison Radio

Sunday, February 02, 2025

All Day

In this discussion, we explored the First Amendment and its application within the context of the U.S. prison system. This program delved into how the rights to free speech and freedom of the press are both exercised and challenged behind bars, and how Prison Radio’s work amplifies the voices of incarcerated people who are often denied these fundamental rights. By examining the intersection of the First Amendment and mass incarceration, we discussed how censorship, media access, and the right to speak out impact incarcerated people and their ability to engage in public discourse.
