Human Resources Generalist

FLSA STATUS: Full Time

POSITION SUMMARY

The HR Generalist is a key member of Eastern State’s Human Resources team, responsible for managing core day-to-day HR operations with a focus on payroll administration, benefits management, and union relations. This role supports both year-round staff and large-scale seasonal hiring for our Halloween Nights program, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, internal policies, and the collective bargaining agreement (CBA).


RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Payroll Administration:  

  • Process biweekly payroll for exempt, non-exempt, and seasonal staff across multiple departments, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. 

  • Maintain payroll records in compliance with federal, state, and local requirements. 

  • Resolve payroll discrepancies, answer employee payroll-related questions, and coordinate with finance as needed. 

  • Track timekeeping compliance and partner with managers to address missing or incorrect entries.   

  

2. Benefits Administration:  

  • Handle day-to-day benefits transactions, including new hire enrollments, qualifying life event changes, and terminations. 

  • Assist employees with benefits questions, claims issues, and online portal navigation 

  • Coordinate with benefits vendors to resolve individual employee issues. 

  • Reconcile monthly invoices and ensure coding for accounting, ensure benefits records are accurate and up to date. 

  • Assist Accounting and HR Director during annual renewal and open enrollment 

 

3. Union & Employee Relations  

  • Support HR Director with tracking and processing grievances, discipline, and related documentation. 

  • Support managers in applying contract provisions consistently. 

  • Maintain positive working relationships with union representatives. 

  

4. General HR Operations:  

  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding processes for year-round and seasonal staff. 

  • Maintain personnel files and ensure confidentiality of employee records. 

  • Support HR compliance initiatives, training sessions, and seasonal staff events. 


QUALIFICATIONS

Required Skills/Abilities:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or equivalent work experience. 

  • 2–3 years of HR experience, including payroll processing and benefits coordination. 

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws. 

  • Proficiency with HRIS and payroll systems (Paycom, Rippling, Paylocity or similar). 

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. 

Preferred: 

  • Experience in nonprofit, museum, or seasonal/entertainment operations. 

  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification.   

  • Experience working in a unionized environment. 

Physical Requirements:   

  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time.   

  • Ability to walk all aspects of the 10 acre site when needed. 

  • Ability to work in space where temperatures may vary to cold and hot    

  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds
