The Investigation of Warden Michael J. Cassidy
Separate tickets required. Purchase online.
It's 1897. Michael Cassidy, warden of Eastern State Penitentiary, stands accused of cruelty and inhumanity, of neglect and incompetence. And no one – no one – is above the law. Come hear the warden's testimony, uncover evidence, and make your judgement – is he innocent or guilty?
This new play by Alanna Shaffer and Christine Freije pits Cassidy against an audience of "investigators" in a battle to preserve his reputation and his prison's legacy. Half historical drama, half immersive absurdist comedy, this piece is a cutting, satirical examination of hypocrisy, power, human isolation and the limits of impunity. Purchase tickets online here.
Please Note: This event requires tickets. Daytime admission to the historic site is not included and must be purchased separately. This event is not part of Eastern State's regular programming, but produced by the show's playwrights and will be performed at the historic site for three nights only.
