Family Field Trip: Music, Creativity, and Protest
Included with standard admission, subject to availability.
On the second Sunday of every month at 11:30 am, join Eastern State's education team for a journey through the history of creativity at the penitentiary.
This month, explore music, creativity, and protest at Eastern State and in prisons today. Make your own musical instrument (supplies provided) then learn more about music and other creative audio as forms of expression and protest throughout history. Listen to songs written by people incarcerated at Eastern State. Consider the role of music during the civil rights movement and in demonstrations today. Discover the growing power of the podcast as a form of protest that reaches beyond prison walls.
Family Field Trips are open to all, but are designed with children ages 8-13 and their caregivers in mind. This program lasts 45 minutes and takes place in an indoor, heated space. Family Field Trips are included with standard admission to the historic site, subject to availability. Daytime tour tickets can be purchased online in advance or at the door. Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior, and ask a staff member to direct you to the meeting point.
