Family Field Trip: Religion and Faith
Included with standard admission, subject to availability.
On the second Sunday of every month at 11:30 am, join Eastern State's education team for a journey through the history of creativity at the penitentiary.
This month, learn more about religion and faith, and participate in a St. Patrick’s Day inspired activity. Explore the religious murals of the Catholic Chaplain’s Office, painted by Lester Smith in 1955 while he was incarcerated at Eastern State, and draw connections to the role of religion in prisons today. Then, make your own wishing well using paper plates and construction paper.
Family Field Trips are open to all, but are designed with children ages 8-13 and their caregivers in mind. This program lasts 45 minutes and takes place in an indoor, heated space. Family Field Trips are included with standard admission to the historic site, subject to availability. Daytime tour tickets can be purchased online in advance or at the door. Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior, and ask a staff member to direct you to the meeting point.
