Technical Carpenter Lead

Job Summary: 

The Halloween Nights Technical Carpenter Lead is responsible for assisting the Technical Manager with attraction builds and leading the Technical Team to ensure the completion of all assigned work within the designated scope. As a working role, this position requires hands-on involvement to ensure that builds progress according to established production timelines. 

The Halloween Nights Technical Carpenter Lead reports directly to the Senior Technical Manager and collaborates closely with the technical team to construct theatrical sets for the seasonal Halloween Nights production. Serving as the lead carpenter for theatrical builds, this position will also join the technical team in operating and supporting the Halloween Nights shows. This role will direct and support an environment of diversity and inclusion where staff of varying backgrounds can thrive, and assist other employees in the performance of their job duties as described below. 
 

Duties & Responsibilities: 

Interpreting Blueprints & Execution: 

  • Interpreting Blueprints and working with the technical manager and tech team to create physical scenery using wood and various other building materials
  • Working with the Creative team through drawings, pictures, and notes to create the final vision
  • Understanding building codes, ADA, and safety protocol when creating and installing the sets
  • Having a basic understanding of scale and general measurement techniques 

Carpentry:  

  • Using woodworking techniques to cut, shape, and join building materials into production sets according to their specifications 
  • Having the physical ability and knowledge to assemble heavy materials and set pieces into various locations  
  • Familiar with building codes
  • Knowledge of Theatrical building techniques and styles  

Supervisory & Collaboration: 

  • Guiding the technical team along with the Technical Manager to achieve production goals and the complete set vision
  • Being able to work independently or in a group 
  • Having the ability to utilize teamwork for completing projects
  • Open to working with a unique and diverse group of people for completion of scope of work 

Show Production:  

  • Once Construction is complete joins the rest of the tech team to provide live support, repair, and maintenance to the production sets
  • Having Schedule flexibility to adhere to the show dates and times

Qualifications

Required Education/Desired Certifications: 

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
  • Experience managing a team Required
  • Theater or Traditional Construction Experience Required
  • Trade School Experience a Plus
  • OSHA 10 a Plus   

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Ability to maintain a positive energy level  
  • Highly organized and able to work independently and collaboratively 
  • Problem solving is essential to being able to meet the needs of construction challenges
  • Base line knowledge of ADA, building codes and safety requirements are job essentials 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all staff and general public
  • Attention to Detail in work performance is important
  • Flexibility to be able to work a variety of shifts is helpful 

Physical Requirements:  

  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to walk all aspects of the 10 acre site each night for the duration of show.  
  • Must be comfortable working in dark, loud and theatrical spaces. 
  • Ability to work in space where temperatures may vary to cold and hot  
  • Ability to climb, stoop, crawl and maneuver in tight spaces can be required depending on the department. 
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
