There is a rich history of music in prison, both historically and in prisons today. Music was a centerpiece of life at Eastern State. Bands, choirs, and orchestras filled the cellblocks with music regularly. Incarcerated people at Eastern State performed on the radio for hundreds of thousands of listeners and even wrote songs that were later recorded and popularized by other musicians.
Now, we need your help creating our first community playlist! Suggest songs for the playlist by writing the title and artist on the community canvas in The Fair Chance Beer Garden during your visit.
Consider adding songs that:
- are by formerly or currently incarcerated artists.
- discuss incarceration or the criminal justice system.
