Opening shortly after Eastern State in 1848, it is hard to believe that these two institutions in the middle of Philadelphia once stood alone, surrounded by farmland. Today, the Girard College Museums display a priceless collection of Stephen Girard’s furniture and personal effects, and a pictoral history and memorabilia from Girard’s 150-year existence.
